Students: If you wish to find a job or renew an existing work permit please drop off work permits to the College & Career Center. Office is open daily 8am-4pm

Process:
- Student completes student portion on the Work Permit application
- Employer completes the "Business" section
- Parent/Guardian signature is required
- Return completed form to college & career center
- Pick up legal document from career center staff (this form goes back to the employer)
Eligibility Requirements:
- Students must have 2.0 GPA to receive a work permit and must maintain above 2.0 GPA to retain it

SB Unified Work Permits 2023-2024
The Santa Barbara Unified School District values the importance of students being able to work, along with academics. Therefore, we are able to issue Work Permits to students using state guidelines. The safety and health of our students is our number one priority.
Students wishing to obtain a Work Permit
The Santa Barbara Unified School District recognizes that students may wish to apply for a Work Permit, and will issue new Work Permits to students who meet eligibility guidelines.
Dates for 2023-2024 School Year. Work Permits for 2024-2024 will expire on Monday, August 26th 2024.
Work Permits Issued at School Sites: August 21, 2023 - Jun 13, 2024
Work Permits Issued at the District Office: June 14th, 2024 - August 23, 2024
Work Permit documents require that all signatures from students, parents, and employers must be submitted as “wet” original signatures. We cannot accept scanned documents
Additionally, by law, all Work Permits in the state of California must expire shortly after the opening of school in the fall. Students who were issued a Work Permit during and wish to continue working at their current place of employment will need to complete a new work permit application to renew their Work Permit in the new school year.

Work Experience Education Class
Santa Barbara High offers a semester-long class called Work Experience Education.
Students must have teacher-approved, legal employment while enrolled in this elective. Course grade and credit is earned by completion of the course requirements which include attending class, submitting paycheck stubs, completing class assignments, submitting required forms, and maintaining employment.
The course curriculum includes how to get a job, how to keep a job, how to leave a job, economic awareness and career awareness. Students will develop an employment portfolio to include a resume, list of references, and business letters.
Santa Barbara High offers a semester-long class called Work Experience Education.
- It is an elective class that combines paid employment with classroom instruction.
- Students attend their own jobs during the week, and also attend a class session once a week at school.
- Students will develop positive work habits and attitude, self-confidence, job skills, and a personal portfolio that can be used to locate, secure, and retain employment in the community.
